Ron was the second child born to Richard A. and Evelyn A. (Stommes) Otremba. He grew up at 710 25th Ave No, St Cloud Minnesota, when the surrounding area was largely vacant due to the location of the former St. Cloud (Whitney) Airport in north St. Cloud. It was a great place and time to be a kid, during the 1950s and early 60s. As Ron grew into his young teens, he enjoyed developing his archery skills, riding his motorcycle, and hanging out with pals like Roger Nelson, Mike Katerba, and Mike Salaski. He enjoyed the outdoors. During his last year, after asking his Dad for ideas about what he might do for a living, he seemed interested in a possible future as a forest ranger, or related career.
